What predictions do I see for the Mass Media world in the upcoming year? That question can be difficult sometimes to sit and think about. I mean we have gone so far creatively within the media, I sometimes wonder where will it end, and what will come next? One of the things that most surprises me is how a simple thing like a portable phone, or at least simple for our times, can encompass so many different components. Internet, music, media files, etc are all included in the phones that are being built today. I think that the cell phone companies will only continue to make every type of technology usable via cell phone. I think that this year we will see televisions only being made for high definition images. I have heard that the some radio stations are going high definition, and I am not really sure I understand that concept yet. I look forward to the developments that will take place in the media this year, but I also wonder where the prices and inventions will end for the future.
Well we have already come so far, it is hard to imagine what else we are going to get thrown our way. I predict bigger TV's and of course more updated versions of "high definition" ...I think sites like abc.com and nbc.com will continue to grow so that we can watch shows online (if the whole writers situation gets figured out)...All in all I think we are going to get faster technolgy at the click of a button..we are still behind in the technogly field..compared to Japan so we are bound to see a lot more coming our way.
Some predictions I have for the future are: newspapers will no longer exist, tv's will be as twice as big and twice as thin, and I think that cell phones will take over. I think that newspapers will soon be gone because of the internet allows the viewer to get the information quicker and all around the world. TV's are only getting bigger and better so what is going to stop that. I think that TV's will not be a big hit in years to come because people will depend on cell phones for that instead. TVs are great but most phone do the same as an ipod and I think that tv's are the next to be taken over.
well i predict that every will get much thiner and compact in 2008 most hdtv are already getter thinner the new sharp aquos is the the thinnest hdtv out right and i feel things will get much thinner smaller and compact as the year goes on i guess travel is becoming more populaer because cell phones ipods and even laptops are becomming lighter and smaller in my opioun for easyer travel i also perdict that movies will do great this summer because there are a look of promiseing new moives set to come out in 08
Great points guys, keep'em coming. What about the struggles the music industry is having (piracy, itunes, etc.)? Who will win the DVD war, Blu Ray or HD-DVD? What will happen with the writers strike?
i believe like other people stated much bigger tvs and definately thinner and portable media and tvs. The music industry is definately going to struggle when it comes to people downloading music on the internet and how i tunes its only a dollar a song and the artists dont get much commission for it, if any at all. The writers strike is out of control and who knows when or where it will end. I agree with everyone elses comments as well. =)
For the future of media in 2008 I think there will be more connections through wi-fi. Phones, computers, tv, game systems will all start to connect. Technology will be better, meaning things will get smaller, more capacity, faster, and be able to go wi-fi. After reading something about the blu-ray disk and HD, i think it's dumb having two different formats for DVD's cause now it makes it harder for people to shop for DVD's. And some companies choose their own format to support making some movies left out on another format leaving the buyer who just owns a blu ray- disk player cant buy HD dvds. For the future I think that one of the Formats is gonna exist as the main format, or Dual HD-BluRay players will be standard for modern technology.
Unfortunately, I haven't been keeping up with all the HD/BluRay/DVD War, and I am guessing that the writers just want more money. However, I have heard that sometime soon everything will be in HD, and even the radio will jump on the band wagon too since it is beginning to already. Also, about DVD's if piracy is illegal then why does every computer company give the people easy access, I mean yeah some people use the burners to make their OWN movies and such, but lets face it, copying movies is a much cheaper way than buying them for $20-$25 a piece.
In the upcoming year I predict the emurgence of the highly interactive media platform. What I mean by highly interactive is video games and movies that go beyond just looking and listening for example NIntendo Wii is a new highly interactive platform. The Video game Rock band where you can buy all different instruments to interact with the video game. Its also a fact that all Television signals are going to be Digital so you are going to need converters for all your non- Hi-def Televisions. Technology will always grow, so won't piracy. I think a global wireless internet will emerge at some point with of course the help of sponsorship. I predict a new format in the drafting of contracts for Television writers where percentage of DVD sales and internet based revenue will be steered there way.
In the up coming year I see many new ideas and inventions. There is going to be less work and more electronics. We are slowly going to be giving everything to the electronics so we can just sit back and do nothing. Smaller becomes smaller and bigger becomes bigger. Things we thought could never be done, will be DONE!
Great Feedback. We will be switching to a new topic soon (remind me next class meeting). In regards to electronics getting bigger and smaller, that is interesting, however I need more specific examples.
On one hand, we have 60 inch plasma TV's give you ability to watch the Simpsons in High Def. while at the same time you can get the same content on your 2inch iPOD. So which way are we heading? Please explain.
In the near future, all of the incredible technological toys we have will being to merge. They'll probably perfect the combination of a cell phone/computer/mp3/dvd player. I think there will be no solution to the music piracy, but record companies and artists will probably go on the offensive again like they did with Napster. While big screen high def will still be big, small electronic devices are taking over. Small, portable and powerful entertainment systems will be what everyone has.
I believe in things getting smaller meaning respective items will get the slimmed treatment that they need. TV's will get thinner and longer meaning wide. Things such as Ipods and PSP's that can get movies on them in Hi-def will start to be able to have more internal capacity and probably just stream Wi-fi faster.
i kno that panasonic and sony are making tvs like the oled that are 3 credit cards in width and tvs 8' by 11' feet so btoh are opposite of eachother. Tvs will be getting more advanced and they will most likely start gettin rid of analog television and make it all digital. As for i pods and phones they will definately advance in info and videos of live news and shows. There will prob be not way of stopping piracy.
The writers’ strike right now is having a huge effect on TV. The Titanic was on TNT the other night. No one can tell me that there was nothing better to put on then a four hour movie. The writers deserve to get their share and a compromise will benefit both sides. As much as the writers’ strike is hurting TV the downloading of songs is hurting artist. Pretty soon artist will want to charge for any song downloaded, and seems there are so many ways around I feel they will refuse to produce more songs until they make profit off the downloading. I think there are more strikes to come and no one will ever be happy enough with what happens.
I predicted newspapers will have moving images. Also Tv's will be your computer. We have already gone so far with technology which makes it very diffcult to think of whats next.
